Our team at Cambrian Dental lets you see the difference through our cosmetically pleasing dental procedures. These processes prevent you from further damage to your teeth and gums, even your bones and jaw.
Are you missing teeth? Tooth loss is extremely important to fix because it can lead to bone loss in your jaw. We want to prevent and stop this loss from happening since it decreases gum tissue increasing the chance of losing teeth. The more teeth you lose the more altered your facial structure becomes. Facial appearance changes if the distance between your chin and nose noticeably shortens as time goes on. Our bone grafting uses materials to stimulate new bone growth at the missing tooth site.
You will be advised of the particular procedure and pertinent directions relative to your treatment modality. Whether you were put to sleep for this procedure or were only given local anesthesia, the post-operative instructions remain the same. Please read below aftercare instructions for your bone grafting procedure.
Bone can be used from your own body, a laboratory processed donor bone, bone grafting material from an animal or man-made synthetic bone.
If you have damaged teeth we can remove them and graft bone to the empty socket in preparation for implants. When several teeth are missing we may use a block of bone to fill in the area. Since a small incision is required during bone grafting, the use local anesthesia, oral or IV sedatives are required to help you relax during the procedure.
Bone grafting is a completely safe procedure and can help you with severe issues. You may have extreme bone loss in your upper jaw where it may be necessary to graft bone through a small incision in your sinuses. Not to worry though because your Cambrian Dentist is experienced in all types of dental bone grafting.
The recovery time after a bone grafting procedure can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months depending on the type of treatment.
After surgery you may have gum or skin swelling or even bruising and minor bleeding.
To prevent major pain, issues and help in the healing process, we will put you on a soft foods dietary restriction. In order to heal you need to brush, floss and rinse your mouth 2-3 times per day with a non-alcoholic mouthwash. Feel free to ask your dentist about implant tools that will help you reach where your toothbrush or floss is unable to. Come see us every 6 months so we can monitor your healing ensuring everything is going according to plan.
