Crowns and Bridges Near You

Dental Services in Calgary

When examining your teeth, we will let you know if you need a crown or bridge. Crowns and bridges are prosthetic devices cemented on your existing teeth or in the spaces where your original teeth once were, protecting your mouth from further harm.
Aftercare Instructions
Aftercare treatment is important following your crown and bridge procedure. Please read the below instructions.

Dental Crowns

When you have a damaged tooth or are in need of a large filling but there is not enough tooth left, we provide you with a hollow artificial tooth called a crown. Crowns protect your weak tooth from fracturing, adds natural colour to your discoloured or poorly shaped tooth, covers your root canal treated tooth, blankets dental implants and even attaches to a bridge. Caps, what crowns are also known as, can last for many years. Just as caps provide you with several tooth repair options, they also come in many different forms.

Crown Types

Metal, Porcelain, Composite & Porcelain Fused to Metal

Metal

  Made of gold
Last a long time without chipping or breakage
  Wear down opposing teeth

Porcelain

   Most natural look
More brittle than metal or composite and may chip easier

Composite

   Looks natural
Chips less easily than porcelain but wears quicker with chewing

●   Stains easily with brushing because this removes the highly polished surface

Porcelain Fused to Metal

   Natural look
   Stronger than porcelain or composite

●   Less likely to chip compared to porcelain or ceramic

●   Metal may show if your gums are thin or shrink

We want you to be prepared when getting a cap put on therefore we brief you on the process prior to your treatment.

Dental Bridges

Also known as a fixed bridge, a bridge is a hollow artificial tooth covering your natural tooth or dental implant. We will use a bridge on you when you are missing one or more teeth. We cement a bridge to your natural teeth or implants surrounding the empty space.

As with crowns, bridges come in a variety of options. We will advise you which choice is best for you.

Types of Bridges

Traditional, Implant, Custom Made or Resin-Bonded

Traditional

We will use a traditional bridge if you have natural teeth on either side of the gap where your tooth is missing. Each side of your missing tooth is prepped for crowns.

Implant

If there are not enough healthy teeth or teeth in general to support a bridge, or several/all teeth are missing then we use an implant. We anchor an implant to existing dental implants where they are surgically placed into your jawbone.

Custom Made

Custom made bridges are exactly as titled, custom formed bridges that are anchored to your dental implants

Resin-Bonded or Maryland

If you have missing teeth in the front of your mouth we use this kind of bridge. We fuse your artificial teeth to metal bonds and cement them to the back of your natural teeth.
